Preparing for your session…
Hi!
Congratulations on your new baby! Thank you so much for allowing me the amazing and rewarding job of photographing your mini in their first few days of life! Newborns are my passion and I consider myself truly blessed to be around these little miracles so much!
My studio is located at 3505 Moore Hollow Rd, Woodlawn, TN 37191.
My mailbox is on the right and my driveway is on the left. Drive up the driveway and stay to the right (please don’t turn left). The studio will be through the garage, first white door on the right!
If you end up lost, or become late to your session, please give me a call at 931-771-6037
What to expect…
For Baby
Please feed your baby 2-3 hours before our expected session time and plan on feeding them when you arrive at the studio! Also, please do not let them sleep before hand. Instead, try giving them a bath, letting them kick around with only a diaper on, tickle their toes, even letting them fuss a bit (no pacifiers) for the few hours beforehand. This will ensure those sleepy squishy newborn photos!
I can’t stress how important it is to try your best to keep them up!
Many parents come in saying “Baby has been sleeping all morning, but its okay because he sleeps so good at home!” only for baby to be awake and fussy since they will be undressed and unswaddled.
It will be at least 80 degrees in the studio. My assistant and I will be dressed for a few warm hours and I suggest parents do as well! Your session can last anywhere from 2- 3 1/2 hours. The easiest way to ensure a happy and sleepy baby is the willingness to bottle or breastfeed on demand.
If you can, please bring the pacifier from the hospital/birthing center. Its the bendable green/blue one and wont leave any marks. This is used just for a few moments in between posing to get baby back to sleep quickly without waking them up too much.
If you prefer me not to use a pacifier, I don’t mind!
FOR PARENTS
Parents are a BIG part of the show! Photographing the connecting between you and your baby is one of my all time favorite things. Depending on your backdrop choice (either paper backdrops for more posed shots, or the lifestyle backdrop for more casual shots) here are my outfit suggestions!
If you’re wanting the paper backdrop poses, moms can wear neutral colored tank tops and comfy pants and dads can wear a neutral colored fitted t shirt. Skin to skin is highly encouraged during these photos.
The lifestyle backdrop is more laid back and therefore there is more room to get creative with your outfits. I always recommend dressing in neutral and earth toned colors. Moms are welcome to wear flowy dresses and dads can wear casual dress wear (nice shirt and khaki pants).
Be sure that your hands and nails are PHOTO READY. Oftentimes they make their way into the detail shots.
FOR SIBLINGS
Including older siblings in your newborn portraits is the perfect way to document this fleeting time in your lives. I ask that girls hair be natural and free from big bows. Neutral colored clothing or pastel colors photograph best. For boys, a snug pair of jeans and a form fitting shirt work wonderfully. If they feel comfortable you can even have them go shirtless.
Because of Covid we like to get family and sibling portraits done first. We request that as soon as the older children are finished that an adult escorts them out of the studio while mom and dad (or just mom) stays with baby to complete the rest of the session.
It is my hope that you come to the studio feeling comfortable and at home. I am truly honored to be able to document this incredible time in your lives and look forward to seeing you and your sweet baby! If you have any questions feel free to contact me at 931-771-6037 or Jessica@iron-lace.com
